Crystals have been used by humans for as long as there has been a recorded history. In ancient times, priest and priestess alike adorned their bodies and their garments with crystals to keep evil spirits away as they performed sacred rites. Soldiers wear them into battle for protection and good luck. Healers have harnessed the energy and the magic of crystals to help cure physical, mental, and emotional illness. Feng Shui masters have used crystals to create beneficial energy flows for homeowners. Indian astrologers have and continue to use crystals to remove obstacles in the path of clients. Crystals have a long and illustrious history as status symbols ranging from engagement rings to being worn by monarchs and the elite. Crystals delight us and draw us to them because of their beauty, magic, and mystery.
Crystal Shapes and Uses
Below is a summary of some of the most used crystal shapes. This information is a quick reference guide to help you understand how to bring crystals into your own energy field, your home, or your workplace. Use them to strengthen the good vibes and lessen the negative ones!
Clusters are Powerhouses of Energy
Because clusters have multiple crystals with terminations at the end, clusters emanate double or triple the energy of a single crystal. The bigger the cluster, the greater the force! Because they emit such powerful energy, and because they receive, store, and send energy, they energize the body and mind and assist us in manifesting our desires more quickly. They are also an amazing crystal to use in a crystal grid formation because they send out energy to all of the other crystals on the grid. They can also be used to cleanse, charge and activate any other crystal you may have. Note that the number of crystals is what gives the cluster it’s power – there’s more power in a small cluster with 20 crystals than in a big cluster with 5 huge crystals.
Tip: Is there a place in your home or office where the energy feels stagnant? Use a cluster to get things moving again! Clusters are widely used to bring qi to any corner of a house or workspace that needs a better energy flow.
Double-terminated Crystals Are Energy-Transfer Tools
Allows energy to flow simultaneously from both ends of the crystal, creating a bidirectional flow. Because the energy flow is bi-directional, it can be used between two chakra points, between two people to transfer energy back and forth, or when you want to magnify an internal energy within you out into the outer world. This crystal works well when working with an intention outside of oneself.
Tip: Clear quartz double-terminated crystals are a must have when building a crystal grid because it sends energy out on two sides, meaning that every other crystal falling within the sharp edge of the crystal has its energy amplified, making the intention of the grid even stronger.
Geodes are Nature’s Work of Art
Geodes come in a myriad of colors and are simply beautiful and calming to look at. When customers walk through the doors to my store, they almost always head straight over to the geodes. They immediately dispel negativity and bring a sense of delight and wonder to your heart. Geodes are said to be very cleansing in that they remove negative energy from the chakras and from the environment, and they are very useful as a meditation tool because they are so soothing and uplifting.
Tip: Place geodes in any room in the house where the energy needs to be more positive and you will notice a difference in how the room feels right away!
Obelisk/Tower Crystals as Energy Magnifiers
Typically used to strengthen intentions that one sets for oneself and also often employed by energy healers when working with clients to benefit health. This shape concentrates the energy of the crystal, moving it from the bottom to radiate out from the top. Can be held like a wand and used to direct energy to a specific part of the body, room, workspace, or anywhere you like. When placed inside a room, the obelisk helps release/distribute and transform the energy depending on what type of crystal the obelisk is made from. They conduct energy transfers between our earth roots and our divine soul. Emits protective energy. Energy is directed out the base and up the top.
Tips:
- Use to magnify your intentions. Turning the point inward helps you take an inward intention and amplify the strength of your intention. Choose the appropriate crystal that aligns with your intention and point it inward. For example, if you are wanting to manifest better communication skills, choose a blue stone and point the crystal inward to the throat center to intensify your intention during meditation or when repeating affirmations about communication. Or, prior to giving a public speech or getting ready to have an important discussion with someone, let your eyes rest meditatively on your obelisk and/or pick up the crystal and point it again towards the throat to strengthen and reinforce the intention of an effortless and effective outcome.
- Use to help a friend in need. Turning the point outward can help you send an intention outward to a friend or loved one or situation. For example, if a friend has just lost their job and is looking for another one, choose an obelisk that represents luck, abundance, or money and write the intention for the person on a piece of paper and turn the point in the direction in which the person lives while mentally saying their name.
- Hold the crystal pointing upwards or leave on the ground pointing upwards. Choose a crystal that helps you focus and let your half-opened eyes gently rest on the crystal.
- Use it to enhance the quality and strength of your aura. When I do energy healing/Reiki and use crystals for healing I use one pointing upward at the feet; one pointing downward at the crown and one each pointing inward on the left and right side of my client’s body. This greatly strengthens the client’s energy field.
- Crystals can be used for protection. Place two obelisks on either side of a threshold to keep negative energy from entering.
Pendulums – An Ancient Tool for Modern Times
Pendulums are an ancient divination tool and have been in use for centuries. They can be worn as jewelry or used as a spiritual device. When suspended from a chain, they are often used to answer yes/no questions, to find lost articles, and/or to identify imbalances within the chakras. They have also been used as a dowsing tool to help locate water. Pendulums are not always made from crystals; metal, wood, and other materials are also used to make them.
Tip: Work with your pendulum and establish a personal bond with it before using beginning to use it. Whenever I get a new pendulum, I cleanse and clear it and then keep it with me 24/7 for a week or so. Then, I begin to ask questions and establish my working relationship with it.
Pyramids
Crystal pyramids are used for manifestation, healing, and meditation. They offer physical, emotional, and spiritual healing when they are held or when you place them at specific points on the body. They increase the amount of positive energy in and around you and remove negative energy from your body and your environment. They are associated with joy and pleasure because pyramids help alleviate stress and anxiety and help lighten a depressed or angry mood. When you are stuck or just can’t seem to get going, they can be used to assist you in moving forward with your life because meditating on them brings inspiration into your life.
Tip: Sleep with a pyramid near your bed. It is said that this placement helps you sleep more soundly and look younger!
Spheres Are Magical
Crystal spheres are truly special… think about it! All points are the same distance away from the center, which allows the energy to radiate in all directions at once, beaming energy everywhere simultaneously!
Spheres are typically used in rooms to enhance a certain energy. For example, a Rose Quartz sphere can be used in a bedroom to enhance a feeling of love. They are used in Feng Shui by placing them in certain locations to enhance a particular type of energy in that location, i.e. placing Rose Quartz to bring in love when by placing it in the southwest direction within the home.
Other uses include meditation and scrying. Spheres can be held in your hands while meditating to increase calmness and focus. Crystal balls spheres have been used for centuries by psychics to look into the future, do divination, and to find lost objects and people.
Tip: Place a crystal ball at eye level and use it as a meditation tool by focusing your eyes only on the sphere. This practice will help you increase your ability to concentrate and receive divine messages. Choose a sphere that assists you in whatever your endeavor might be during meditation to help you manifest even more quickly.
